Thank you for your interest in our residency program. The residency program you choose and the experience gained there are the foundation for the rest of your medical career. There are many important things for you to consider, a quality program with a good group of committed residents should be at the top of your list. Physicians who are totally committed – dedicated to their patients, their education, this program and most importantly to each other.
I invite you to consider the UAMS South Central Family Medicine Residency in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Our program (based at Jefferson Regional Medical Center (JRMC)) is the only residency in this 350 + bed hospital. Family physicians supervise our Family Medical Center and our own inpatient service. Local specialists serve as consulting faculty and supervise specialty rotations.
As a Family Medicine Resident at UAMS, you care for patients from Southeast Arkansas, a medically underserved region. Some patients from smaller hospitals and nursing homes nearby, including very ill elderly and patients with no regular medical care. You may staff certain ruralhealth sites. Family Medicine Residents rotate through private practices, and our local hospital. Rotations at Little Rock teaching hospitals – the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Veterans Administration Hospitals, and Arkansas Children’s Hospital – are available as electives. Residents learn to perform numerous outpatient procedures with a special emphasis on EGDs, colonoscopy and wound care.. Specialty clinics at the FPC provide additional direct interaction between the resident, his/her own patient panel and the specialist.
Our OB training includes good exposure to routine vaginal deliveries, tubal ligations, and cesarean sections. Residents normally participate in over 100 deliveries during the program and perform a minimum of ten continuity patient deliveries. Advanced Obstetrics electives are available if desired.
Please call Summer Jamison at 1.800.395.6011 to schedule your interview day. I look forward to meeting you and having the opportunity to tell you what makes our program unique.
